El crítico Pi Li explica que, fuera de China, las exposiciones se han desarrollado principalmente bajo dos perspectivas: la confrontación entre Este y Oeste y la relación entre la modernidad y la tradición (Alors, la Chine, Centre Pompidou, París, 2003). Dentro de la primera línea la confrontación entre Este y Oeste, encontramos la acción de Xu Bing t Cultural Animal. A case study of transference 1994-1995.

Una forma de ironizar sobre la nuevas formas de neocolonialismo a través de la imagen del cerdo. También Zhang Huan aborda esta difícil relación entre Occidente y Oriente En peregrinaje contra viento y marea en Nueva York 1998. Una acción en la que yace desnudo en una cama de hielo durante diez minutos para denunciar el trato que reciben los immigrantes e intentar vencer ccon su calor las dificultades y la frialdad con la que es acogido.

IDENTITAT I PES CULTURAL/ Shunji Iwai, Picnic

El pes cultural pot evidenciar les barreres de precepte (nacionalismes), a l’Interior d’aquesta, la barrera de sentit queda controlada en la mesura que hi ha preguntes que no queden resoltes perquè es queden tancades dins de la barrera poruga i conservadora.

Quan es trenca la barrera de precepte, sempre per proximitat, l’altra apareix en escena de manera que t’obliga a prendre posició: les pràctiques exòtiques deixen de ser exòtiques quan et son properes: propicien una posició dialèctica.

Shunji Iwai director del film Picnic, proposa una manera d’escapar del marc paisatgístic: ho fa pujant sobre el perímetre de la muralla que separa el dins del fora i passejant-hi tot i vorejant l’interior, caminant per la seva pell. Alhora, en aquest gest d’arpejar l’interior trenca la frontera entre el dins i el fora perquè es fa conscient de que alhora està vorejant l’exterior mentre que camina sobre el mateix perímetre.

Els NO-LLOC són aquells que es poden multiplicar, que poden ser a qualsevol lloc, on ningú se sent a casa però ningú se sent hoste a casa de l’altre. És casa de ningú.

Aquests són els processos, motiu pel qual la identitat - alteritat no són autònoms,

Tant jo com l’altre defugen en romandre a pertànyer al lloc per a ingressar cap a allò que ens fa ignorants, cap allò del qual no tens coneixements.
